Cosmetic Dentistry

This type of dentistry deals with proper oral hygiene along with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of such diseases since this dentistry concentrates more on the improvement of these appearances. It helps in solving issues like crooked or chipped teeth, discoloration, and missing teeth. Below are the different types of procedures that are offered:

Dental Bonding-

This process of bonding usually helps in improving the look of the teeth if they are either chipped, broken, cracked, stained or having excess amount of space between them The procedure normally involves application of composite resins to the surface of the tooth, moulded into shape, hardened with ultraviolet or laser light and then lastly polished. The result blends with the surroundings of the tooth structure along with the rest of the teeth only to improve the person’s smile. This type of dental procedure is considered to be the easiest of all and is usually done with a single visit to the dentist only. This procedure hence is used to fill in small cavities or protect the exposed root of the tooth while the modern ones use bonding only to replace the tooth with silver or amalgam fillings.

Dental Braces-

Nowadays, both children and adults are benefitting through this process of dental braces. Braces not only correct the crooked or misshapen teeth but also help in improving irregular bite, jaw joint disorders and proper positioning of the jaw. Dental braces usually work by applying some steady pressure to the teeth and then reposition them into proper alignment. The dentists or orthodontists use metal, ceramic or porcelain brackets to bond the teeth back again. Arch wires here are threaded through the brackets only to position the teeth and thus these types of braces can be usually worn from about 1 to 3 years. After this, the retainers replace the braces only to hold the teeth in their new position.

Implants-

Implants are the best solutions that remain for a long term only to replace the missing teeth and also considered to be one of the most expensive cosmetic dentistry treatments. They are tooth root replacements made with titanium and are easily inserted into the bone sockets of these missing teeth. It is also considered to be one of the best alternatives to bridges and removable dentures. They are implanted into the jawbone through a simple surgery, performed by an oral surgeon and in case any bone loss occurs then the surgeon will have to graft the bone first only to secure the implant. There are usually three different parts of a dental implant like titanium metal being fused to the jawbone, an abutment that fits over the implant that comes out of the gums and finally using a crown to give that natural looking appearance to the tooth that is implanted.

Tooth Whitening-

This type of procedure is also known as bleaching where a chemical procedure is used to remove stains and helps to whiten the teeth. This type of cosmetic treatment is considered to be one of the most expensive and simplest ways that help in enhancing one’s smile and appearance. There have also been cases registered of discoloration of the enamel that usually occurs due to smoking, taking certain medicines, aging or drinking beverages daily. You will also be glad to know that there are teeth whitening options that can be used in the form of kits at home but it is highly recommended that you use the ones that your dentist recommends for since this type of treatment is not meant for everyone. It is suitable mainly for individuals that have unrestored teeth and gums.
